The Dutch referendum on the EU-Ukraine Association agreement: what lessons for Brexit?

On Wednesday 6 April the voters of the Netherlands will vote in a referendum on whether to approve the EU-Ukraine association agreement.
This will be the culmination of a spirited and chaotic referendum campaign that has pitted the political and media establishment against a motley crew of leftwing and rightwing populists. What lessons, if any, can be learned from this experience by those campaigning in this country’s Brexit referendum?
Michiel van Hulten, who is a Visiting Senior Fellow at the LSE European Institute, is one of the leaders of the ‘yes’ campaign. He will provide his analysis of the result and how the campaign was fought. Also on the panel will be Matt Steinglass, the Europe editor of the Economist who was previously correspondent in Amsterdam for the Financial Times; Professor Sara Hobolt from London School of Economics and Political Science; Professor Anand Menon, King’s College London and Director of the UK in a Changing Europe Initiative.
Chair: Dr. Sara Hagemann, LSE and ESRC Senior Fellow, UK in a Changing Europe Initiative.
Venue: London School of Economics and Political Science, Clement House Room 4.02
