What happens if no deal is reached?

If the UK and the EU fail to agree to a deal, the UK will leave the EU within 2 years of triggering Article 50. Trade between the EU and the UK would revert to World Trade Organisation terms, including tariffs on goods and non tariff barriers to trade in services. The transition from tariff-free trade to WTO rules would be disruptive for business, and lead to many disagreements being taken to court. UK negotiators will seek to avoid this outcome.
