What is the European Court of Human Rights?

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) is the body responsible for overseeing that member countries comply with their obligations under the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR). It is an institution of the Council of Europe. The court sits in Strasbourg and is not to be confused with the Court of Justice of the European Union, which sits in Luxembourg and deals with a separate legal system, the EU.
