How did we get here? the political economy of immigration to the United Kingdom

In the last two decades, immigration has moved to the centre of the UK political debate: in parallel, there has been explosive growth in academic research on the impacts of immigration to the UK.

Professor Jonathan Portes will present a brief history of immigration policy and the immigration debate; set out what we know about the impacts of immigration; and discuss the way forward for UK immigration policy in the context of Brexit.

This is the latest in the Inaugural Lecture series organised by the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy at King’s College London; events that reflect on current debates in social science & public policy and celebrate the contribution of a recently appointed professor to their field. The event will be followed by a drinks reception.

Venue: Bush House Auditorium, South Wing, King’s College London, Strand, London, WC2R 1ES
