What does Brexit mean for Northern Ireland?

The Joint Report between the UK and the EU set out a number of things that won’t happen in Northern Ireland, but uncertainty remains about precisely what will happen. There will be no hard border on the island of Ireland, no new regulatory barriers will be put up between the North and the rest of the UK, and the Good Friday Agreement will be protected in its entirety. The UK is now tasked with finding “specific solutions” to resolving the Irish border question, otherwise it will maintain “full alignment” with Single Market and Customs Union rules over a wide range of issues.
