What is the Mansion House speech?

The Mansion House speech, delivered on 2 March 2018 in the City of London, set out Theresa May’s vision for the UK’s future economic partnership with the EU. May argued the UK wanted a ‘bespoke’ deal, tailored to the UK’s specific needs.

Notably, it made clear that the UK’s access to the single market would reduce and the government would hope to continue to pay into some EU agencies on an ongoing basis. The Prime Minister set out a plan for the UK to abide by some rulings of the European Court of Justice, but that the ‘jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice in the UK’ would end.
