Where does the European Parliament meet?

The official seat of the European Parliament is in Strasbourg, in eastern France. This is where the plenary sessions of the whole Parliament take place 12 times a year. However, all the parliamentary committees meet in Brussels, and shorter additional voting sessions take place in Brussels six times a year. Further extraordinary sessions can also be held in Brussels at the request of a majority of MEPs. The Parliament’s secretariat is based in Luxembourg. This arrangement was decided by the EU heads of state and government at a summit in Edinburgh in 1992.
