Who are the Greens/European Free Alliance (G/EFA)?

The Greens/European Free Alliance (G/EFA) are the main environmentalist grouping within the European Parliament, of which the UK Green Party is a member. Following the 2019 European Parliament elections, the Greens are the fourth-largest grouping in the Parliament, having increased their seats from 52 to 74 (out of 751).

However, a coalition of right-wing forces may be able to form a larger group during negotiations prior to the new parliamentary session beginning on 2 July 2019. The G/EFA benefited from the performance of the German Green Party in the 2019 elections, which came second with 24 seats, up from 11 previously.
