Who is Manfred Weber?

Manfred Weber is the lead candidate, or Spitzenkandidat, and chair of the European People’s Party (EPP), which is the largest grouping in the 2019-24 European Parliament. As a result, he is the EPP’s nomination to be the next president of the European Commission, to replace Jean-Claude Juncker. He was elected to the European Parliament in 2011 as a member of the Bavarian centre-right Christian Social Union party in Germany. As chair of the EPP, he also sits on the Conference of Presidents in the European Parliament.
