Leave/remain: the facts behind the claims

28 April 2016

This report has emerged from a collaboration between The UK in a Changing Europe and Full Fact, the UK’s independent fact checking organisation.

The referendum on UK membership of the European Union is starting to dominate the headlines. As the campaigns gather steam, the public is being bombarded with conflicting claims about the costs and benefits of that membership. Many of these are at best unsupported by evidence, and at worse simply untrue.

Our intention in putting this series of analyses together, was to investigate some of the claims being made by the rival camps and subject them to rigorous analysis. As organisations sharing a commitment to ensuring that the public be as well informed as possible, we thought it be important to ensure that the information being provided was as accurate as possible.
