Does the EU have a common army?

EU member states make their own decisions whether to commit forces, and other personnel, to the military and civilian operations of the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). There are no permanent standing EU forces or army. Some EU member states have taken the decision to form ‘EU Battlegroups’, which are forces (approximately 1,500 strong) available for the use by the EU for CSDP operations. These Battlegroups have not been deployed to-date.
