What is the College of Commissioners?

The College of Commissioners is the body of senior political figures in the European Commission, headed by its president. It includes a person from each of the EU’s member states, although they do not represent that state, each of whom is responsible for a particular policy portfolio, such as agriculture, competition policy or trade. The entire College is elected collectively by majority approval of the European Parliament and serves a five-year term to coincide with the EU’s legislative calendar.
