Who is Maroš Šefčovič?

Maroš Šefčovič is the EU’s Vice-President for Interinstitutional Relations & Foresight. In that role he is chair of the UK-EU Joint Committee, which was set up to manage the implementation of the Withdrawal Agreement, and Partnership Council, which governs the implementation of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement.

He is the opposite number of David Frost, who is the UK chair of both bodies.

Mr Šefčovič has been an EU Commissioner since 2009 and prior to that was a career diplomat in the Slovak (and before that Czechoslovak) diplomatic service.
